When scientists at Harvard University observed that children who ate popsicles got dimples in their cheeks , the scientists—Dieter Manstein, MD and R. Rox Anderson, MD—realized that the cold popsicles were freezing and removing small pockets of fat cells. The idea that cold can target fat cells—without damaging the skin or surrounding tissue—was the insight behind Cryolipolysis®, the proven science on which CoolSculpting technology is based.
The CoolSculpting treatment involves fat freezing by safely delivering controlled cooling to fat cells underneath the skin. Treated fat cells are crystalized (frozen), and die. Over time, your body naturally processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells, leaving a more sculpted you.
Cryolipolysis (CoolSculpting treatment) does not involve needles or any surgical tools. During treatment, the doctor uses the device to hold the targeted areas between two paddles. The paddles cool quickly and are left in place by the doctor for around 30 to 60 minutes. During this period, around 20-25% of the fat cells are targeted in the treated area.
The final results will be visible in a few months after treatment, but one can start noticing changes within a few weeks. The body’s immune system slowly clears out dead fat cells from the body.
