Summer is a great time of year to get outdoors and enjoy all the fun recreational opportunities that Arizona has to offer. But the harsh summer sun can take a heavy toll on your beautiful skin. There are a few things you can do to protect your summer skin and keep it glowing all season.
Apply sunscreen every single day.
Sunscreen is critically important for reducing your risk of skin cancer and premature signs of aging, like wrinkles and areas of hyperpigmentation. Yet, many people still don’t apply it every day. Skin care experts want you to know that even if it’s cloudy out, the sun’s harmful rays will still damage your skin. You really do need to apply sunscreen every day. Follow these tips
- Apply liberal amounts of a noncomedogenic sunscreen to all areas of exposed skin about a half hour before leaving your home.
- Reapply sunscreen every two hours.
- Select a water-resistant sunscreen that offers broad-spectrum protection.
- Choose a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.
- Tuck a roll-on sunscreen product into your bag for greater convenience when away from home.
- Use skin care products that contain SPF, including lotion, lip balm, and makeup.
- Wear clothing with an Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) to prevent UV light from penetrating to your skin.
- Wear a wide-brimmed hat and oversized sunglasses with UV protection.
Exfoliate your skin.
Summer is a good time to focus on exfoliation. With the elevated temperatures, you’re likely going to sweat more, and that will clog your pores. Exfoliation is an effective way to cleanse those pores and slough off dead skin cells. As a general rule of thumb, try to exfoliate once per week. Exfoliating more often than this may be too harsh for your skin, especially if you have sensitive skin. You can use a facial exfoliation product, along with a body scrub and loofah to get rid of those dead skin cells.
Switch up your lotions.
The cooler months of the year are an ideal time for thick, creamy face and body lotions. But for summer skin care, experts recommend switching to lighter lotions. Gel formulas are often ideal because they absorb quickly. Consider choosing a product that contains either lactic or glycolic acid. During the summer, steer clear of moisturizers with glycerin, lanolin, or petrolatum.
Schedule a soothing facial.
There is a lot you can do at home to pamper your skin during the summer, but it’s very helpful to seek professional care. Periodically, schedule a soothing facial to heal your skin and restore its beautiful summertime glow. The OxyGeneo 3-in-1 Super Facial is particularly effective for improving the texture and appearance of the skin. It combines state-of-the-art microdermabrasion technology with proven formulations including peptides, retinol, and hyaluronic acid. Although it includes a microdermabrasion component, this facial won’t result in any side effects like redness. You can get it done on your lunch break or as a last-minute rejuvenation treatment before a social occasion.
Use a refreshing and hydrating facial mist.
Let’s face it: The hot weather can be tiring and it may leave you feeling frazzled from time to time. For an instant refresher, you can keep a bottle of skin hydrating mist in your desk or car. Facial mist helps you stay cool while also giving your skin that much-coveted dewy complexion. It also helps your makeup stay fresh. Look for a product that includes antioxidants for added skin care benefits.
