Are you fed up with areas of hyperpigmentation or visible veins beneath the surface of your facial skin? You’re not alone. These imperfections are a common complaint among our patients here at Perfection Plastic Surgery and Skin Care. That’s why we’ve invested in a state-of-the-art laser system designed for effective and safe photorejuvenation. You can schedule a consult with Dr. Peter Kay, a board-certified surgeon, to determine if photorejuvenation is right for you.

What is photorejuvenation?

Photorejuvenation is accomplished with the use of a solid-state KTP laser. This beam is generated by a neodymium:yttrium aluminium garnet (Nd: YAG) laser. It is then focused through a potassium titanyl phosphate (KTP) crystal to produce light in the green visible spectrum.

The targeted treatment area absorbs the light from the laser. The light energy is then converted to thermal energy, which gently destroys the targeted cells, such as melanin (pigment). Because the KTP laser features pulse duration, the surrounding tissues are not affected by the thermal energy. In other words, the KTP laser effectively corrects areas of hyperpigmentation without harming healthy, non-targeted skin.

What can photorejuvenation treat?

The KTP laser is capable of treating a wide range of cosmetic concerns. Here at Perfection Plastic Surgery, we often recommend it to patients who are troubled by the appearance of acne or acne scars. It can also be used for the following:

  • Rosacea
  • Port wine stains
  • Cherry angiomas
  • Melasma
  • Skin tags
  • Broken/visible blood vessels
  • Pre-cancerous actinic keratosis (AK)

Any raised or pigmented skin lesion may potentially be a good candidate for KTP laser treatment. The KTP laser is also an effective anti-aging tool, as it can reduce the look of wrinkles and lines. In addition, our patients enjoy the improvements in skin texture, tone, and laxity after having photorejuvenation therapy. As an added benefit, there is no recovery time required for KTP laser treatment!

How many treatment sessions will I need?

You’ll notice visible improvements after just one treatment session. However, many patients do require a series of treatments, usually three to five. During your consult, Dr. Kay will explain how many treatments you may need in order to achieve your aesthetic goals.
